Climate Change risk will bring about a large “man-made disaster” when we forget it
What do you think of as a familiar risk to us when you hear the "Climate Change risk" of the earth caused by the increase of CO₂? For example, there may be a familiar risk that it will become too hot or too cold, making it difficult to live in. But the greatest and most unavoidable Climate Change risk facing humanity is war.
Many of the human wars that have been waged in history are competition for energy and food, in other words, 'competition for farmland'.
Agricultural land is the land on which plants can be cultivated. Climate Change could significantly reduce the amount of agricultural land on this planet. For example, if the sea level rises due to global warming, the land area with agricultural land will decrease relatively. If Climate Change accelerates desertification, the area that can be used for agriculture will decrease. Under these circumstances, if war breaks out around the world, it will be a problem that cannot be helped.
Climate Change is a very slow and widespread process. Thus, by the time we realize the changes, they will have already had an irreversible impact on the planet, posing enormous risks to humanity.
In order to change such a future, we now need to layer on the associations.
Changes in familiar temperatures, for example, could be resolved by jumping into the ocean or wearing thicker clothes in the extreme. What we should think about and act on is what we can do now against the wars that are breaking out around the world.
Green beetles do not require farmland for their cultivation and can provide energy as a source of nutrients for humanity and bio-jet fuel for technology. The corporate entity, Euglena, is the very action we associate with and are taking for the future of our planet.
When I think about these future crises, I think of the ozone-depleted hole "ozone hole" destroyed by chlorofluorocarbons as a hope. Do you know what the ozone hole in that elementary school textbook is like now? Little by little, it's getting blocked.
People all over the world acted with a small consciousness, and were able to prevent huge problems on a global scale. Mankind has tremendous power to destroy and restore this earth.
Euglena is a future-changing detonator
On October 31, 2018, at the same time as the completion of the Biojet Diesel Fuel Production Demonstration Plant, we declared "GREEN OIL JAPAN". This is a declaration that "Japan will become an advanced biofuel country."
The true meaning of this declaration is not to turn all jet fuel into 100% Euglena bio-jet fuel on our own. We want to be a "detonator".
I would like to give the energy industry around the world the awareness that they can make a major change in direction, thinking about the future of the earth and saying, "From now on, it will be bio-jet fuel!" What was started by a Japanese venture company that started up in Euglena can be a small trigger. As a result, I hope it will be a shock to change the world. I put that thought into this declaration.
And we, Euglena, want to become a company that does not exist on the earth today through the bio jet fuel business. It is a company that says, "The more you grow as a company, the better your society will be." The company Euglena embodies an interesting form of democracy in a way.
In the past economy, the main role of a joint-stock company was to return profits to shareholders. However, Euglena has been able to fulfill the role of realizing the hopes of individual shareholders for the future in this society.
One shareholder says, "I want my grandchildren to become a company that can boast that they have owned Euglena I think this also created a new way of engaging with corporations in the economy.
We want to leave a hopeful earth for children living in the future. An earth where many people can believe and act that this world should be a better one.
